RPMI, as part of the joint venture, performed the architectural, mechanical, site development, equipment design, specifications, and estimating for this $16.3 million transit facility.
The facility serves as the central bus maintenance shop for the entire transit fleet of 1080 buses and the main materials storage and distribution center of bus related parts and components. The building is organized around a central spine of coach lifts with a one-way movement of vehicles through the facility to accommodate the four primary service functions: body repair and painting; bus repair and unit replacement; component disassembly, remanufacturing, diagnostic testing and high pressure spray cleaning; and material storage area including a semi-automated parts retrieval and system wide computerized inventory network. Additional second level areas are provided for office and employee services. Approximately 125 people were employed at the facility, the building houses 35 to 40 buses at one time and performs approximately 12 engine overhauls, 10 body and brake repairs and five paint jobs per month.
