RPMI prepared program, site selection, preliminary and final design and construction administration for this County jail. The service consisted of architecture, mechanical, electrical, structural and landscape architecture.
The project contains single occupancy cells for 100 inmates in the categories of maximum, medium, minimum security and work release. Included is a kitchen, multipurpose gym and dining room, chapel, library, visiting areas and holding cells. Booking, sally port, classification area, de-tox and clothing distribution area are included in the jail component. The Wayne County Sheriff's Department, the Wooster Police Department and the county-wide communication divisions as well as the emergency operations center are designed in the facility.
In 1978 the building was cited by the Law Enforcement Assistance Administration and received a Design Award by the Cleveland Chapter, American Institute of Architects.
